1860 10C PR67 NGC. Whereas some proof 1860 Dimes were struck with the Type Two obverse, this coin is an example of the Type One hub variety (5 vertical lines in the obverse shield above the ribbon upon which LIBERTY is inscribed). With a sizeable original mintage of 1,000 coins, the 1860 seems like it should be one of the more common Legend Obverse proofs in the Seated Dime series. Such is not the case, the lack of collector demand once again resulting in the wholesale melting of countless unsold examples on the part of the Mint. Superb Gem survivors number only 16 coins at NGC and PCGS, all but two of which are graded PR67 (1/03). This lot offers a golden tinged representative whose shimmering fields are particularly vibrant as the coin dips into the light. The strike is sharp throughout, and both sides are silent on the subject of grade-limiting distractions. Worthy of inclusion in the finest specialized collection. From the Philip Kaufman Collection. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
