1860 $10 Clark, Gruber & Co. Ten Dollar MS61 NGC.
1860 $10 Clark, Gruber & Co. Ten Dollar MS61 NGC. K-3, R.5. An intermediate-late die state, lacking only the die crack from the bottom of the R and through the E in GRUBER. Always an interesting issue with the fanciful obverse die created back East by someone who had never seen Pike's Peak. Very scarce as such and always in demand by territorial collectors, this is a lovely piece that exhibits just a touch of reddish patina over the yellow-gold color of the native Colorado ore used to strike these coins. A small planchet flake is located above the R in GRUBER, otherwise just a few small field marks are present on each side. Well defined. Population: 2 in 61, 7 finer (1/05).
From The Beverly Hills Collection. Lot:9765
