1859 U.S. issue military rifle, .52 caliber percussion, 30” barrel double set triggers serial #56535, in serial number range issued to Berdan Sharpshooters and other U.S. sharpshooter regiments. Refer Flayderman 5F-023.5. The rifle shows approx. 75-85% original blue, just starting to drift to patina with some light erosion and pinprick pitting, natural aging just starting. The Sharps address, New Model address and 1859 are crisp and legible. The R.S. Lawrence marked rear sight is retained. The barrel shows an OWA inspection near the breech. The lock and frame, lever, and plate, show considerable original case hardening drifting to patina, but at least 20-40% mixed in. The buttplate and patchbox show 30-40% case hardening mixing in their brown patina. The forend shows initials “A. W. N.” stamped at the rear of the forend at the flattened area just in front of the lever. The buttstock shows a select grain, almost of commercial quality with no inspections and fits impeccably and was never cartouched. The bore is fair and shows some roughness at the breech from firing and use. All original bands and small parts. The lock markings and patent markings are sharp and well defined.
