1859-S S$1 MS63 PCGS.
1859-S S$1 MS63 PCGS. The 1859-S is a curious issue and one where the entire story is not known. Only 20,000 pieces were struck and the entire mintage was exported to the Orient. As one would expect, it is predictably rare in all grades, but it is oddly more available than the mintage would indicate. Bowers has speculated that some might have returned to the United States after specie payments were resumed. Nevertheless, most of the survivors are in the VF-XF grade range with Uncirculated pieces seldom seen or offered. This piece has fulsome mint frost, as one would expect from a San Francisco product, and the only mentionable abrasions are located out from stars 9 and 10, and between the eagle's right (facing) wingtip and the final A in AMERICA. The obverse shows light gray-blue toning while the reverse is brilliant. A rare opportunity to acquire this low mintage issue in mint condition. Population: 5 in 63, 0 finer (10/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
