1859 S$1 MS63 PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint produce
1859<S$1> MS63 PCGS. The Philadelphia Mint produced 256,500 Seated Dollars in 1859, a total that is appreciably higher than any preceding issue in this decade. One might think that the 1859 is among the more common Seated Dollars from the 1850s, but this is not the case. Once again, as happened in 1854, 1855, 1856, and 1857, the federal government exported the majority of 1859-P Silver Dollars to the Orient. Today, the '59 is scarce in circulated grades, and rare in Mint State.
This is a noticeably bright piece whose fields display striations from extensive die polishing. The strike is free of criticism and the definition is sharp in virtually all areas, save for Liberty's head and a couple of the stars. The minimally abraded features are silver-white in appearance with a hint of reddish-gold toward the rims. Population: 16 in 63, 6 finer (3/05).
