<B>1859<P50C> Half Dollar, Judd-237, Pollock-293, R.4, PR62 NGC.</B></I> The so-called "French Head" design for the half dollar that features a bust of Liberty facing right, draped with a ribbon inscribed LIBERTY and a wide wreath of oak and vine on her head. The reverse has HALF DOLLAR in the center and is surrounded by a wreath of cotton, tobacco, sugar cane, corn, wheat, and oak. Although credit for the design is traditionally assigned to Longacre, Saul Teichman of uspatterns.com suggests that Paquet may in fact have been the designer. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Struck from slightly rusted dies, the surfaces are rather lackluster in appearance with a thin coating of gray-golden and rose color. A few minor marks and some hairlines are also noted that limit the grade.
