1859-O 25C MS64 NGC. Briggs 1-A. It is believed (by Larry Briggs, 1991) that the New Orleans Mint used only two sets of dies to deliver 260,000 Quarters in 1859. This issue is not rare in circulated grades, but, like most O-mint issues in the Seated series, it is rare and underrated in Mint State. NGC and PCGS combined report only 22 examples that range in grade from MS61 through MS65 (1/03). Among these Uncirculated coins is the virtually brilliant near-Gem in this lot. There are few abrasions, as befits the grade, and those that are present are anything but distracting to the naked eye. A few of the obverse star centrils are the only features that are not sharply struck, and some delicate golden overtones are noted toward the denticles. This is an important bidding opportunity for the high grade Seated Quarter date collector. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
