This is a rare and beautifully painted 1859 Paris porcelain presentation water/milk pitcher with decorations attributed to New Orleans Louisiana porcelain panted and gilder Rudolph T. Lux. The Rococo Revival melon shaped pitcher is beautifully decorated and painted with festoons of flowers and is inscribed on one side. To my sister Maggie Oct, 20. 1859. This rare and colorful pitcher is in good condition for it's age with little wear to gold gilding. It has a branch handle and a gilt leaf spout. Height 8" by 9" wide. See Currents of Change Art and life along the Mississippi River 1850-1861 for similar pitchers & gold gilt incripshions decorated by Lux.

The painter and gilder Rudolph T. Lux had a thriving French Quarter New Orleans business decorating porcelain for the steamboat trade and private commissions from New Orleans to Saint Louis. As early as 1857, Lux announced in the New Orleans Daily Creole:

Pictures and sceneries of every description are faithfully copied on
beautiful vases, or on other china utensils. The painting and gilding
will remain as long as the china will last.
