<B>1859-C G$1 AU50 PCGS.</B></I> As with the 1857-C, the 1859-C is another Charlotte gold dollar that is usually seen with poor eye appeal and uneven detail. The present example is certainly above average for the date. It has a nice, sharp strike with typical weakness on the denticles but with good detail in the centers. The obverse shows a few small marks in the left field; the reverse has some minor nicks in the center and a small area of mint-caused roughness at the upper center. Close to half of the original mint luster is present and, unlike so many 1859-C gold dollars, this piece has not been processed. The color is a pleasing light to medium yellow-gold with a natural appearance. The overall look of this coin is excellent and its sharpness is certainly equivalent to that seen on many coins graded AU55.
