<B>1859-C $5 AU55 NGC.</B></I> Every known 1859-C has a peculiar strike with extreme weakness seen on the reverse. While this example is no exception, it actually displays better detail than about 90% of the pieces we have seen. The obverse is somewhat choppy with a number of shallow scuffs in the fields; the reverse is clean and choice with one tiny mint-made grease stain seen above the olive leaves. There is a considerable amount of mint frost seen and it appears that this coin does not have that much actual wear. Both sides have acquired light orange and rose-gold color that is pleasing, and this is certainly a very presentable example for the date and grade.
