1859 50C MS64 NGC. Hub Variety One. Wiley and Bugert assert that one of the reasons for the creation of the Large Letters Subtype IV was to improve metal flow during the striking process. If that is the case, it obviously did not work as this piece shows heavy metal flow between the letters of UNITED STATES.
This is an exceptionally lustrous half that is sharply struck throughout. Slight color is seen in the centers with deepening golden-rose and sea-green patina around the margins. Census: 19 in 64, 10 finer (10/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
