1859 $5 MS62 PCGS. Ex: H.W. Bass, Jr. Collection. A well struck orange-gold example of this underappreciated No Motto issue. Just 16,734 pieces were struck, and PCGS has certified just four pieces in Mint State, with the present coin as the single highest graded (3/07). This piece would grade at least MS64 were it not for a slender vertical mark on the left obverse field and a small dig on the field beneath the chin. The reverse is gorgeously preserved.
Ex: Don Devore, 8/68; Harry W.
