<B>1859 $20 AU55 PCGS.</B></I> This issue's mintage of 43,597 pieces is low by Philadelphia standards of the era, and with collectors dismissing the issue as collectible until much later, high-grade representatives are highly elusive today. Garrett and Guth (2006) comment on this issue: "Most examples are in no better condition than Very Fine or Extremely Fine. A number of coins have been offered as About Uncirculated in the last decade, but most of these were on the lower end of that scale."<BR> By contrast, this Choice AU piece has much better visual appeal. The solidly struck devices show only minor wear on the highpoints. The lightly abraded straw-gold obverse offers partial reflectivity, while the reverse shows more typical, slightly flashy luster.
