1859 1C PR66 PCGS. As Rick Snow states in his 1992 reference on the Indian Cent series, "In 1858, coin collecting in America became a new craze among the general public. With the elimination of the old copper coins and the foreign coinage from circulation, the general public became aware of the interesting and sometimes valuable coins in their coin purses." The new design for the Indian Cent that was introduced in 1859 was custom made to sell into this collecting public. And in proof format it was even more desirable. This is an exceptional proof that has deeply mirrored fields with rich red and orange-red coloration. The reverse shows a wide patch of bright lilac patina as well. The only mentionable flaws on this lovely coin are a couple of small spots on the E in CENT.From the "Newmismatist" Collection; the All-Time #1 PCGS Registry Set.
