1859 10C Transitional PR65 NGC. Judd-233, High R.6. Popularly known as "The Coin Without a Country," as the starred obverse used for regular issue 1838-1859 dimes is combined with the cereal wreath reverse of 1860-1891 issues, with no indication anywhere of the country of origin. USpatterns.com characterizes this coin as a "fantasy" and states, "It is believed that fewer than two dozen are known." This curious piece has long been listed in the Guide Book, and as such is very popular today. This coin is deeply toned in shades of indigo and burgundy above fully reflective surfaces which instantly betray its status as a proof. A bit of lighter silver color is visible on the obverse figure of Liberty. Heavy die polish lines are visible in the fields, yet actual contact marks appear to be limited to a few minor pinpricks. This is an appealing example of this numismatically fascinating issue.
From The Southland Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
