1859 10C PR66 Cameo NGC. Produced in an era when the U.S. Mint first started marketing proofs to collectors, the 1859 was not well received at the time of issue. Rather, many of the 800 pieces originally struck were melted as unsold at the end of the year. It is unlikely that more than 100 coins were actually distributed, and most survivors are confined to the PR60-64 grade levels. The present Gem is the finest of only three Cameo representatives that we have offered. Both sides are pleasingly contrasted beneath a light overlay of golden-gray iridescence. The surfaces are carefully preserved with no bothersome handling marks and four small strike throughs (all as produced) in the right obverse field. Two of the latter are below the Liberty cap, one is between Liberty's head and star 8, and the fourth follows star 13. Every device is boldly, if not sharply struck. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
