<B>1859 10C MS66 NGC.</B></I> The 1859 dime, despite the generous mintage of 430,000 pieces, is challenging above VF levels of preservation. For Uncirculated examples, Brian Greer (1992) assigns a rarity value of low R.4. Cobalt-blue, lavender, and golden-brown toning rings the margins of this Premium Gem specimen, and a well executed strike accounts for above-average definition on the design features. This is significant, as Greer indicates that: "Soft strikes make this date challenging for the fussy collector." Highly lustrous surfaces are impeccably preserved.
