1858-S<10C> MS61 ANACS. Fortin-102. The pendant is centered over the 5, and the left bottom serif of the 1 ends over the left side of a denticle. A rare coin in all grades due to the minuscule mintage of 60,000 pieces, most of which entered circulation in rough-and-tumble San Francisco immediately. About 15 years ago, this issue was thought to be unknown in Mint State, but a few Uncirculated pieces have been certified since then. The present example has fairly heavy, mottled russet-gray toning that covers much of each side, and a bit of planchet roughness is noted. There is strictly no trace of wear, of course, and the strike is actually well executed. The enormous S mintmark is above the bow. An rare opportunity for Seated dime specialists.
