1858 H10C PR65 PCGS. Ex: Eliasberg. Walter Breen in his 1988 Encyclopedia estimates 80 plus proof half dimes were minted in 1858, while Al Blythe, in his half dime reference book, suggests 40 to 50 proofs. In contrast to these estimates, the PCGS/NGC population data show about 130 certified examples (some of which are undoubtedly resubmissions). In any event, this exquisitely struck Gem displays strong field-device contrast when the coin is rotated under a light source. The frosty design elements are primarily grayish-mauve in color, and are further highlighted by iridescent cobalt-blue, lavender, and golden-tan in the fields. Nicely preserved throughout, and housed in a green-label holder. Population: 10 in 65, 2 finer (8/07).

Coin Engraver: Christian Gobrecht

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
