Small Cents 1858 Large Letters. PCGS graded Mint State 64. <b>The final year of this truncated series, which was produced only from 1856 to 1858. A desirable spot-free example in which those who view it will discover a very sharp eagle (full head, claws and tail with only minute rounding at the tail's right side), injury-free rims on both sides, full, sharp ONE CENT within an equally nice wreath. This wreath, which was dropped when the 1859 Indian Cents were introduced, has come to be known as "Longacre's wreath of cereals". It was one of his finest creations for a coin's reverse, simple, yet effective in its depiction of America's bountiful harvest. At the time this Flying Eagle cent was issued, most Americans lived on farms or worked in small towns across the landscape that were connected with agriculture.
