1858-D G$1 MS63 PCGS. Writing in 1997, Winter states that only 9-11 Mint State 1858-D Gold Dollars are extant from an original mintage of 3,477 pieces. Despite this paltry delivery, this date is among the more common in this series from the Dahlonega Mint. Examples are similar in overall rarity to those of the 1851-D delivery, and high grade (AU and finer) coins are superceded in availability by survivors of the 1849-D, 1851-D, and 1859-D issues. The '58-D is usually found better struck than the 1857-D, but this coin has some mentionable bluntness of detail over the lower right reverse wreath. There are no bothersome Mint-made blemishes, and the surfaces are free of singularly mentionable handling marks. Both sides are softly frosted with pleasing green-gold and orange-gold colors.Consigned by a Financial Institution. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
