1858-D $5 AU55 PCGS. Variety 35-CC. An issue from late in the life of the Dahlonega Mint, which saw declining mintages every year from 1852 onward, due to the lessened supplies of Georgia gold. Branch mint gold expert Douglas Winter considers the 1858-D to be the fifth rarest of the 26 Dahlonega Mint half eagle issues. Just 15,362 pieces were struck, with few if any pieces set aside by contemporary numismatists. The present example has extensive bright luster and only lightly abraded surfaces. While the strike is typical in the centers, the eagle's wings and most of the stars have sharp details. Population: 16 in 55, 29 finer (2/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
