1858-C $5 MS63 PCGS.
1858-C $5 MS63 PCGS. The 1858-C is a relatively obtainable issue in all grades. Mint State pieces are occasionally available also, but this is the finest known example of this issue and is listed on Doug Winter's Condition Census as the #1 specimen. The striking details are uncommonly sharp for a branch mint issue of this era with no singular area of weakness on either side. The fields are bright and slightly reflective. The only significant surface marks are a vertical scratch on the neck of Liberty, and a small planchet flaw above the eagle's head on the reverse. This coin's pedigree as listed in Doug Winter's book on Charlotte gold is: "Martin Paul inventory, ex: Superior 2/97: 2961 (where sold as a non-certified Mint State 63 for $22,000), earlier owned by Mike Brownlee/Robert Lecce. Now in a PCGS Mint State 63 holder, earlier graded the same by NGC." Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
