<B>1858-C $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 18-J. The only known variety for this issue. The Charlotte Mint coined 9,056 quarter eagles during the year, a production that was substantially larger than the previous few years. Today, the population of Mint State and higher quality circulated coins is likewise greater than for some of the previous issues. This Mint State piece is a wonderful example with highly lustrous and frosty yellow-gold surfaces with faint orange toning on the reverse. It is nicely detailed with strong obverse and reverse definition.
