1858-C $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. Variety 18-J. The 1858-C is the only C-mint quarter eagle produced between 1856 and 1860. Apparently the smaller gold denomination had almost been eliminated in favor of the continually produced half eagle. A mere 9,056 pieces were struck. Despite this small mintage, the 1858-C is actually the most available quarter eagle produced at the Charlotte facility during the decade and, according to Doug Winter, in high grade rarity it ranks 18th out of the 20 C-mint quarter eagles. From a population of perhaps 25-35 Mint State survivors, almost exclusively MS60-62 quality, comes this well detailed example. Both sides are overlaid in attractive reddish patina and show modest scuffiness in the fields. A pair of paper-thin blemishes that curve down Liberty's jaw and neck are the most obvious distraction. Population: 13 in 62, 3 finer (12/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
