1858-C $2 1/2 MS61 NGC. Winter 18-J. Last offered in our 2000 FUN Sale, with the description: "The 1858-C Quarter Eagle, one of just 9,056 pieces struck, is actually the most available issue of the denomination produced at the Charlotte facility during the decade and, according to Doug Winter, in high grade rarity it ranks 18th out of the 20 C-mint Quarter Eagles. The surfaces are lustrous and reddish-gold in hue. Reasonably well struck on the obverse, there is the usual C-mint softness in the center of the reverse. For pedigree purposes, a pair of small marks are noticed between stars 4 and 5...." Population: 3 in 61, 7 finer (10/02). Ex: 2000 FUN Sale (HNAI, 1/00), lot 7623, where it was purchased for $4,830.
