1858/7<1C> MS64 NGC. FS-006. Snow-1. Struck from a relatively late state of the dies, as there is little or no evidence of an underdigit. The die dot above the date, however, is plain, as is the broken wingtip of the eagle. Flickers of pale pinkish color intermingle with dominant tan-brown shadings. Both sides are satiny in texture with an otherwise bold strike that wanes over the right obverse periphery. We stress, however, that the latter feature is relatively common for this overdate since most examples were struck from what Snow (2001) terms "skewed dies." There is not a single mentionable abrasion. Snow asserts that the 1858/7 is "typically collected as part of the basic [Flying Eagle Cent] set," and we definitely anticipate significant bidder competition for this conditionally scarce Choice representative. Population: 31 in 64, 4 finer (6/05).
