1858 $3 MS61 NGC. The 1858 is the first issue rarity
1858<$3> MS61 NGC. The 1858 is the first "issue rarity" in the series of three dollar gold pieces from the Philadelphia Mint, with production reduced to 2,133 business strikes. It is also a significant condition rarity. The majority of survivors are VF to XF quality, with slightly fewer AU coins known. Akers ranked the 1858 as 8th in the series according to rarity by average grade. This is a shimmering, boldly struck coin that is tinted a pleasant yellow-gold, and shows some trivial scuffiness in the fields with no appreciable abrasions. A mere handful of 1858 threes exist today in Mint State. Census: 1 in 61, 6 finer (6/06).
