1858 25C PR64 PCGS. This is the first year that proof coinage was widely available to collectors. While the Guide Book claims that slightly more than 300 proof Quarters were struck in 1858, it is generally believed that no more than 80 pieces were actually sold to collectors. One peculiarity about this proofs struck this year is that almost all of the survivors show lint marks somewhere on the surfaces from the dies having been wiped with a cloth and lint adhering because of static electricity. This coin shows a number of those same telltale lint marks on each side. The fields are deeply reflective with noticeable portions of mint frost on the devices. Deeply toned as well with blue-violet and rose toning. Population: 11 in 64, 3 finer (7/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
