<B>1858 1C Large Letters PR66 NGC.</B></I> While serious collectors right down to those only vaguely familiar with the wide spectrum of U.S. numismatics are nearly always aware of the 1856 Flying Eagle cent, only specialists in the small cent series are normally familiar with the extreme rarity of the proof 1858 Large Letters cent. From an estimated mintage of a paltry 80-100 pieces, only a few dozen specimens have survived in all grades. This important Premium Gem representative is notable for its strength of detail and glistening, well mirrored surfaces. Hints of pale lilac patina mix nicely with the coin's natural honey-tan coloration and only a few scattered, truly insignificant signs of carbon are noted on the obverse.
