1858 1C Large Letters MS64 PCGS. High Leaves, Closed E in ONE. The discontinuation of the half cent and large cent in 1857 led to the first full-scale numismatic mania in America, and in 1858, under Director James Ross Snowden, the Mint began publicly advertising proof coinage for sale to collectors. The American Numismatic Society was founded that same year. This piece from that momentous year offers lustrous reddish-tan surfaces that lack much sign of either carbon or contact, save for a couple of stray flecks near the rim.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
