<Our item number 100268>1858 $10 Liberty. NGC graded MS-60. Very scarce date. Ten years after the famous California Gold Rush started in 1848, "Pike's Peak or Bust" became the cry of gold seekers heading for what today is Denver, Colorado during the subsequent rush and hysteria to get rich quick. This is a key date Eagle from that momentous year, one which boasts unusual properties so indicative of the times: rarity, value, collector appeal, and, in this particular coin, immeasurable beauty because it has been carefully preserved in Mint State condition! A remarkable coin. A once-in-a-blue-moon opportunity!

The 1858 is one of the key dates in the Eagle series, among the rarest, and because of earlier enthusiastic auction descriptions by such winsome and self-promoting dealers as B. Max Mehl, it is undoubtedly the most famous issue of this sometimes overlooked denomination. Most of the relatively few known survivors (perhaps 25 to 30 in all grades) are well worn with Very Fine being average. Until this high end specimen was sells, there will be lots to talk about; after the sale, the coin will likely go into hiding for years and years. Very few Mint State 1858 Eagles get offered for sale. Only 2,521 coins minted. Pop 2; 2 finer; 1 in 61; 1 in 64.
Estimated Value $25,000-30,000.

Our item number 100268
<IMAGES>

</IMAGES>
