1858 $10 --Cleaned--ANACS. AU53 Details. With a mintage of only 2,521 pieces, the 1858 eagle is one of the legendary rarities in the Liberty Head series, although not as elusive as once believed. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth said, "In reality, the 1858 issue is a scarce coin, certainly the rarest thing since the 1844 eagle, but there are plenty of rarer dates that follow ... . Over 32 examples have appeared at auction since 1994, not to mention an untold number that have been sold privately. That said, the 1858 eagle is still quite difficult to locate in nice condition, since most circulated heavily, became abraded, or were cleaned." This piece did not escape the cleaners' clutches, but much pleasing luster and detail remain on the yellow-gold surfaces. The obverse shows a light scattering of small abrasions. A single scrape above the eagle's head requires mention.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
