<B>1857-S $5 AU50 NGC.</B></I> The 1857-S saw extensive use in the daily commerce of the California Gold Rush, and most survivors are well circulated (Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, 2006). This bright brassy-gold example with traces of luster in the recesses is one of the few survivors in high grade. Excellent definition shows on the motifs, and both sides are minimally abraded.
