<B>1857-S $3 AU53 NGC.</B></I> Despite a production of only 14,000 pieces, the 1857-S has the second-highest mintage of any San Francisco three dollar gold piece. This example is a luminous amber-gold survivor, well struck overall with minor but distinct wear on the highpoints. As usually seen, the date is weak.
