1857-S $20 Spiked Shield MS66 PCGS. Variety 20A, identified by two short, deep die scratches to the left of and penetrating the shield. As a result of the discovery of the S.S. Central America treasure, the 1857-S has become the single most available Type One Liberty Head double eagle.
This Premium Gem example displays remarkably clean, well preserved surfaces. It is exceptional in this regard, for as Douglas Winter and Adam Crum, in their Insider's Guide to Collecting Type I Double Eagles, write, "... most Type I double eagles show extremely heavy marks."
In addition to excellent surface quality, this example possesses dazzling luster and attractive peach-gold color accented with whispers of apricot. Finally, an exacting strike imparts sharp definition to the design features. All of these attributes combine to generate super eye appeal.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
