<B>1857-S $20 Spiked Shield MS65 NGC.</B></I> <I>Ex: S.S. Central America</B></I>. While not so indicated on the NGC holder, this Gem is the Spiked Shield variety, confirmed by two short die lines, one of which pierces the lower left part of the shield, and the other below and to the left that does not penetrate.<BR> Potent luster invigorates both sides of this gorgeous Gem, each revealing bright brassy-gold color. A solid strike imparts excellent definition to the design elements. Indeed, <I>Central America</B></I> survivors seem to show better detail than coins that are not from the hoard (Douglas Winter and Adam Crum, 2002, p. 113).
