1857-S $20 Spiked Shield MS64 PCGS. Ex: S.S. Central America. Variety 20A. SSCA 0762. The Spiked Shield variety is the most common variant of the many 1857-S double eagles, so named because a mint-made die line nearly pierces the lower left shield border. This radiant near-Gem belies its existence for many decades on the seabed of the Atlantic Ocean, with lustrous orange-gold surfaces that show only a few tiny, scattered abrasions. Included with the 1857-S double eagle is an outer cardboard case, a presentation box, made to resemble a leather-bound book, and a certificate of authenticity from the Columbus-America Discovery Group.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
