<B>1857-S $20 Spiked Shield MS65 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 20A. SSCA 2965. A remarkably unabraded Gem kept from an even finer grade by some dusky gray patina from 7 to 8 o'clock on the obverse, and from 4 to 10 o'clock on the reverse. An outstanding example of this famous shipwreck hoard issue. Lustrous, crisply struck, and housed in its initial gold label PCGS holder. Included with the lot is a red California Gold Marketing Group box, a faux book, and a certificate of authenticity signed by <I>S.S. Central America</B></I> expedition leader Tommy Thompson. The S.S. Central America sank on September 12, 1857, with approximately 435 lives lost.
