1857-O $20 AU58 PCGS.
1857-O $20 AU58 PCGS. Following a record low of 2,250 pieces in 1856, the New Orleans Mint's production of double eagles ratcheted up to 30,000 coins in 1857. One should not, however, assume from this that the 1857-O is a readily available coin. On the contrary, the 75-80 extant '57-O double eagles are slightly rarer than their 1861-O counterparts despite the latter issue's lower mintage of 17,741 pieces. This is a moderately prooflike example whose glassy fields are visible beneath the hazy golden patina. Both sides show a moderately abraded appearance, but the boldly defined, originally preserved features are only the lightest rub away from full Mint State. Population: 12 in 58, 1 finer (10/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
