<B>1857 H10C MS67 NGC.</B></I> With a business strike mintage of more than 7 million pieces the 1857 is one of the more frequently encountered dates in the With Stars type; however, at this lofty grade it is in a class by itself. Regarding half dimes of the resumed Variety Two design with the arrows removed, it should be noted that there are two sub-types. The Longacre design of 1857-59 had full stars, while half dimes of 1859-60 Longacre's assistant, Anthony Paquet, prepared a new hub which is noteworthy for the fact that it had hollow stars. According to Breen, both types exist for 1859. Well struck, the only ripple in the texture of the surfaces are die clash marks in the fields. Richly and deeply toned in a rainbow of colors. Rarely offered at this grade level, this piece is destined to enhance the finest cabinet of Seated Liberty half dimes. NGC has seen only six specimens at this grade level with a single finer example at MS68 (3/07).
