1857-D G$1 MS61 PCGS. Variety 9-L. The central strike is typical, with weakness noted on the headdress, hair, and on the OLL and 185 in the date and denomination. The lustrous surfaces are a pretty orange-gold. Light clash marks appear on the reverse, along with a wispy die crack above the wreath tips. This issue is among the most underrated Dahlonega gold dollars, according to Winter. Population: 6 in 61, 6 finer (12/07).

Coin Engraver: James B.
