<B>1857-D $2 1/2 XF40 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 20-M. A tiny mintage of 2,364 pieces in this antebellum year tells the story of this issue. It is quite elusive in all grades, although Garrett-Guth point out that examples of this denomination and year--unlike 1857-D gold dollars--are well struck.
