<B>1857-D $2 1/2 MS61 NGC.</B></I> Variety 20-M, the only known dies. A thin die line connects the right tip of the digit 5 to the bust truncation, a diagnostic of this obverse die. The reverse has a large D mintmark centered above the tip of the fraction bar, and joined to the branch stem. The 1857-D is a low-mintage issue (2,364 pieces) that is rare in Mint State grades. <BR> The MS61 example in this lot has sharp design features on both sides with frosty luster and attractive lemon-gold color. Some light handling marks are noted under magnification.
