(1857) C.M. Berry Saloon Token Counterstamp, Philadelphia, PA, Pa-36, Uncertified. Silver. Counterstamped on a 1774 Mexican two real coin. Caspar M. Berry ran a saloon on the northwest corner of Fifth and Chestnut streets in Philadelphia between 1857 and 1860. The counterstamp is exactly the one listed on page 380 of The Standard Catalog of United States Tokens 1700-1900 by Russ Rulau. It appears that some grading services grade the host coin rather than the counterstamp itself. We believe this to be an error on their part and have therefore graded the counterstamp as an Extra Fine. Current market value is approximately $175-$250.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
