1857-C $5 MS63 NGC.
1857-C $5 MS63 NGC. Variety 25-J. The 1857-C is one of the more available C-mint fives, and even though several coins are available in Uncirculated grades, high grade Mint State pieces are very rare. This is the second finest example and it is listed as such on the Condition Census. Described nine years ago in the catalog of the Milas Collection as, "Deep yellow orange gold in color on partially reflective surfaces. A sharply struck example of this Charlotte Mint issue, with better than average design details showing. Just a few, faint, contact marks to be noted." The description goes on to state that, "Eliasberg's was graded AU-55, Norweb's was called EF-45, while the Stack (1994) coin was AU." A simply spectacular example of this popular Charlotte issue.Ex: Private Collection; Midwestern dealer; New York Gold Mart (Ron Karp); Ed Milas Collection (Stack's, 5/95), lot 506, where it brought $23,100. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
