Rare 19thC Railyway Station Americana
DESCRIPTION: 1st Edition, 8vo (16cm), 128pp, Original decorated brick-red paper over boards. Plain cloth spine. Ward and Lock adverts to both endpapers and rear board.
CONDITION: GOOD.Wear to corners. and edges. Binding holding together, but rear hinge tender. Some minor damage to upper edge of several early leaves and upper corner of last two leaves. A few smudges and marks, but generally very clean throughout with no foxing. No previous ownership marks. A rare survivor in original covers of a very interesting railway stand ‘Yellow-back’ presenting “most of the popular lyrics of the United States” with interesting notes. This brick red paper cover has clearly been laid over another title on yellow paper (an early example of recycling?). The book is divided into several sections: Songs of the Affections; Pastoral and Rural, Military and Patriotic; Sea Songs; and Miscellaneous. Great and famous compositions such as The Star-spangled Banner are included, but the editor laments the fact that “The more refined the production, the more slender its chances of becoming known, while jingling tomfoolery dashed with a spice of quaintness is in the mouth of the whole nation. For this reason the book also contains examples of what Paul regards as feeble stupidities.

2. The auctioneer will be the final judge as to who is the succesful bidder. In the event of a dispute, the auctioneer shall at his discretion decide whether or not to reopen the bidding. If an item is withdrawn from auction it will be offered again at the auctioneers discretion. Title to all merchandise shall pass to the succesful bidder at the fall of the auctioneers hammer. The purchaser shall assume full responsibility for the lot purchased once title has passed. All lots in the catalogue are subject to a reserve, of which the amount is confidental between Kristen Leighs auctions ltd and the consigner. We reserve the right to bid up to the amount of reserve by placing successive or consecutive bids for a lot, or bid in response to other bidders.
POSTAGE:
3.The auction house has at any time the right to void the sale before any lots are shipped and will refund all monies paid within a reasonable amount of time normally within 2 weeks

A sihipping quote is provided by Kristen Leighs auctions limited on invoices and automatically includes tracking, which can be tracked on your end to your address. Insurance isn't included and can be added at an extra cost by contacting us.
4. In bidding on any lot offered, the bidder indicates acceptance of these terms and conditions. Title of each lot passes when the auctioneer or screen indicates sold. The bidder is responsible for knowing on which item he/she is bidding. If unsure the bidder should inquire or not bid. When becoming the winning bidder at auction, you have affected a contract and will be expected to pay for items in which you were evidenced to be the successful bidder.
All autographed lots (Excluding signed photos) over the value of £150 will include a third party certificate of authenticity. A certificate of authenticity is an opinion expressed by a company as to it being genuine. We welcome all bidders to do their own research before bidding, and to ask questions before bidding as the winner of a lot will enter into a legally binding contract to pay for the lot. As in condition of a lot, we give no opinions, and items are sold as seen.
