<B>1857 3CS PR64 NGC.</B></I> The exact mintage of proofs is not known, but it is estimated that perhaps 75 pieces were initially struck, and Breen suggests maybe 18 to 20 are now extant. Whatever the case, the 1857 is a very elusive proof Type Two date. and one that is seldom offered. Boldly defined with nicely mirrored fields, some die polish marks are seen, particularly on the obverse. Both sides exhibit tan-brown and antique-gold patina that deepens toward the borders. A Choice example worthy of a strong bid.
