<B>1857 25C MS67 NGC.</B></I> The 1857 quarter is a serendipitous issue that one finds occasionally in numismatics. As a No Motto quarter it is in great need for type sets. Fortunately, the mintage was huge, more than 9.6 million pieces were produced. But large mintages do not always guarantee a large number of survivors. However, in the case of the 1857 a hoard of about 40 Uncirculated pieces were found around 1974. This is a phenomenal piece that has bright, lustrous surfaces that were created in part by the light die striations on each side. The reverse has a semi-reflective sheen. Richly and originally toned on the obverse with most of the reverse still brilliant. The obverse stars are weakly defined but the devices are sharply struck elsewhere.
