1857 25C MS66 PCGS. The high mintage figures for Seate
1857 25C MS66 PCGS. The high mintage figures for Seated quarters inaugurated by the Mint Act of February 21, 1853 continued at the Philadelphia Mint through 1858. The total production of coins in 1857 amounted to 98.6 million pieces, a figure that would not be surpassed until 1876. As one might surmise, the '57-P is a readily obtainable coin in most grades that is often called upon to represent the No Motto type. Nonetheless, there are few coins in today's market that could compare to the present example in terms of either surface preservation or eye appeal. Both sides are sharply defined, and striated dies explain the modest, yet appreciable contrast between the fields and devices. With smooth surfaces and lovely deep, variegated, red and sea-green toning, this coin is worthy of a premium bid. Population: 28 in 66, 4 finer (1/06).
